No More pre-recorded Robocalls message
As of June 30th, 2021, robocalls are going to be a thing of the past. Every major voice provider in the US will have to implement a technology called Stir/Shaken that effectively blocks spam calls from ringing through. This is a great news for everyone who has been on the receiving end of these annoying phone calls with bogus health-related scams, expiring car warranties, and fake banks offering nonexistent interest-rate discounts for credit cards. For years, this scourge has been tormenting us all without any relief in sight. Thankfully, it looks like our days of being pestered by illegal robocalls are numbered!
What is Stir/Shaken?
Stir/Shaken is a technology that blocks spam calls from ringing through and sends them to voicemail. Robocalls are blocked at the network level by applying conditional access policies on voice services, which redirect these unwanted messages before they reach your phone.
It’s important to note that this doesn’t affect regular incoming calls or texts you welcome just those unsolicited ones! So don’t worry about missing an urgent call because of Stir/Shaken it will still go right through as normal. This is great news for everyone who has been on the receiving end of illegal robocalls for years with no relief in sight but now we can finally say goodbye to Robo-harassment once and for all.
Scams using Robocalls in the United States
Robo-harassment is a serious problem in the U.S., with more than two billion illegal robocalls placed every month, according to an FCC report released last year.
These calls are typically used for scams like health-related scams, expiring car warranties, and fake banks offering nonexistent interest-rate discounts for credit cards. And they’re getting worse: In 2018 alone, there were about 20 billion of them! This means that on average, Americans received one unwanted call every six minutes during the busiest stretches of 2019 and it’s only going to worsen as we head into 2022. The new “Stir/Shaken” technology will hopefully put an end to all this by coming online this June 30th.
