Humanity would not have endured the past two years without OTT content. OTT platforms like Netflix, Prime, Hulu have kept people sane through the pandemic. Given the plethora of shows/movies/documentaries available, it can often be a challenge to choose. We have listed titles that we believe will keep you hooked to your screen.
Criminal(2019-Present) Available on Netflix
This show revolves around the London police department interviewing murder suspects to persuade them to confess. The cruel yet witty nature of both the police and the criminals will keep you at the edge of your seat. With two seasons of 4 episodes each, this show would be perfect to binge-watch over the weekend.
Peaky Blinders(2013-Present)Available on Netflix
The BAFTA award-winning television series is one of the best shows of this decade. Although fictionalized, this show is loosely based on the criminal Gang in the 1900’s Birmingham. Cillian Murphy and the late Helen McCrory’s mesmeric performances as Tommy Shelby and Polly Shelby(Tommy’s sister) are the show’s fulcrum. With 5 seasons of 6 episodes each, the show can be enjoyed over some time.
Medici(2016-2019)
This show is based on the Medici family from 14th century Florence, Italy. Ofter considered one the most influential families in history, the Medici wreathe anchor heads of the renaissance era in Italy. Commission the like of Boticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, the Medici led Florence to prosperity. The show starts in the 13th century with Cosimo de Medici and ends in the 15th century with Lorenzo the Medici(Cosimo’s grandson), both of whom were the de facto rulers of Florence during these times. Medici revolves around the struggles/triumphs that were endured to turn Florence into the most powerful city in all of Italy.
Lucifer(2016-Present)
Hardened Christians, please look away!!! Just kidding, Lucifer(Actor Tom Ellis) as the name suggests is a show about Lucifer Morningstar, the devil himself. Satan, the devil has decided to take a break from his mundane routine of punishing evildoers in hell and come down to earth for a vacation. His day job as police advisor to the LA police department is complimented by his penchant for punishing criminals.
Archer(2009-Present)
This show is a satire on the life of a secret agent. Archer revolves around the secret agent sterling archer, who works for an intelligence agency by the name of ISIS(Pun intended) run by his mom(Malory Archer). Despite his competence as a skilled agent, Archer is considered by his mom to be a man child, sleeping around and often evading his responsibilities. The show is amplified by the presence of Lana Kane(Archer’s Ex) constantly freaking at him due to his antics. And the jokes are some of the wittiest you’ll ever come across.
Ozark(2017-Present)
Directed by Jason Bateman, Ozark is one of the most underrated shows on Netflix. Ozark is a series about Marty(Jason Bateman), a financial advisor forced to launder money for a Mexican drug cartel. Not obeying the cartel’s orders would put his family in jeopardy, so he sets up a clever scheme to continue laundering money for the cartel while keeping the FBI off his back.
MindHunter(2017-Present)
Much like Criminal, Mindhunter is a series based on FBI agent Holden Ford’s (Jonathan Groff) efforts to interview serial killers to understand what makes them tick. Kameron Britton as real-life serial killer Ed Kemper and Damion Harriman as the famous serial killer Charles Manson brilliantly portray the nefarious nature of a sociopathic murderer. Mindhunter is one of the smartest shows one could come across.
Given the abundance of shows available on Netflix, it is near impossible to list every single show, but the list above is carefully curated after reviewing meticulously. The viewer will certainly be satiated after watching these shows in Netflix.
