Honda unveiled the name of its first electric SUV in the US, and it’s one that many have already guessed. The vehicle will be called the Prologue SUV, and it will go on sale in North America starting in 2024. What makes this announcement interesting is that Honda has revealed a lot about the vehicle so far without actually showing us anything. This begs two questions: what does the prologue look like? And when can we finally see it?
Let’s take a look into Honda electric vehicles history
Honda first showed off electric cars in the early 2000s with a small commuter vehicle called EV-Plus. The compact, two-door hatchback was hocked as an ultra-low emissions’ car that got 100 miles on one charge, but it seemed like Honda’s heart wasn’t really into electric powertrains at all and after just 12 years they discontinued production of the model. It would take another decade before we saw any more EVs from Honda.
The next time around, they released a limited number of Fit EVs to testers for use primarily as company vehicles. This past year, Honda also revealed its Urban EV Concept, which hinted at what might be coming down the pipeline for future models: All-wheel drive capability.
The first electric vehicle from Honda for sale on North American roads is called “prologue” and it’s going to go up against models such as tesla, Chevy bolt EV, etc. Honda has hinted that future models would come with all-wheel drive capabilities like we see today on SUVs like jaguar xfI don’t know about you, but I can feel my excitement level rising just thinking about Honda being a big part of this industry!
