How to Backup Nvidia shield TV using Google account (Google Drive)

To check whether your Google account is active in your NVIDIA SHIELD TV by going to ‘settings’ and then ‘accounts’ thereby selecting the related Google accounts. Here you’ll be asked whether to back up to the cloud, and your data gets stored into Google Drive. For photos to get stored, you have to download the Google Photos app and once you are done with the initial configuration, your photos will be automatically saved to the app. 

Backup on PC (without Root)

Backup via ADB is another alternative to make a complete backup to PC or MAC. For this, using the command line, install the ADB tool on your PC. Activate the USB debugging on the TV to make sure that it can communicate with the PC using a USB cable. (done through ‘Development Options’ in ‘Settings’). Install the drivers of the android devices in the PC for their respective processors. Now do the connectivity test by executing ADB devices from android_sdk/platform-tools/directory. Once connected, you’ll see your device as ‘Device’. Now launch the following command line ADB backup-apk-shared-all-f backup-file.adb

Then a message pops up saying that backup is going to be made and once it is authorized, it will be stored in the system as a file named backupfile.adb in the path where the command has been executed. 

Backup with Helium app (with or without root) 

Helium – App Sync and Backup is an option to look for if you wish to copy your apps without root and save it on an SD card or in a computer or by synchronizing to cloud storage apps such as Google Drive and Dropbox. Start with downloading and installing the Helium app in the NVIDIA SHIELD TV and the same for PC from the official website. After installing NVIDIA drivers on PC, activate the USB Debugging option in TV, which is in developer options. Start the Helium app on the TV and connect it to the computer, and then select the applications you wanted to back up and save.

Backup with TWRP Recovery

This is an Android backup method through a third-party custom recovery software used to create a backup only after installing TWRP on NVIDIA SHIELD TV. After making sure that TWRP is installed on the TV, enter the TRWP Recovery mode by most probably pressing the combination keys of the Power +Volume down button or Power +volume up button. Another easiest method to enter this mode is through the ADB command by entering ‘ADB reboot recovery. After entering the TWRP custom recovery, find the ‘backup option’ then select Boot, system, and Data options. Click the button to create backup and wait until it is done. Now, you can restore this Android backup whenever necessary by launching the TWRP mode, clicking on restore and select from the list of displayed recovery files already existing in the device and wait till until it is completed.
