WhatsApp would not exactly qualify under feature-rich messaging app, nevertheless, it’s by far one of the most popular, with a user base of billions. Not long ago disappearing messages on WhatsApp feature was introduced, where you could set a specific chat to self-destruct. If the feature is enabled, the app will automatically delete messages after 7 days. WhatsApp has also started to work on an option of destruction for every 24 hours.
If 7 days is too soon for your taste, no problem: WhatsApp is working on adding a 90-day option. This feature was unveiled by WABetaInfo as part of the 2.21.17.16 beta update, but it isn’t out just yet. These updates for WhatsApp are going to make it easier than ever before when handling sensitive chats. The already-available 7 days self-destruct period, as well as “view once” photos and videos will keep those private moments between you and your contacts even more private.
What are all the new features coming to WhatsApp?
WhatsApp had launched its ‘View Once’ feature earlier this month, the feature deletes messages once they are read. The option of a 24-hour limit was released in April this year. Last November, it released a feature that automatically deletes messages after 7 days. With this new feature, WhatsApp allows users to choose between: turning disappearing messages ‘Off’ or selecting a time limit of 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days.
How will Be Disappearing messages on WhatsApp work?
In personal chats, the option for disappearing messages is controllable by both parties. In group conversations, anyone who is a part of the group can change the setting (if all of you are admins), the group administrator can select which members can change the setting, by going to Group Setting under Group Info.
You will not be able to access it as it has not been released publicly — not even in the beta. WhatsApp with these steps wants to level the playing field with its competitors and alternatives like Telegram on that front.
