Unless you live under a rock, you must’ve heard about bill gates, once the richest man in the world now sits rather comfortably at #4 on the Forbes top 10 lists. He might fall a couple of places down the list once his divorce settlement is done. Bill Gates and Melinda Gates/Melinda Ann French have dropped the bomb, they have filed for divorce, they are putting an end to 27 years of marriage. Although this news might come to be a surprise for many, Billionaire disunions aren’t that uncommon.
One of the more recent instances would be the Bezos disunion, which in hindsight, was the second-biggest story after covid in 2k19. The divorce settlement left Mackenzie Scott-Jeff Bezos’s ex-wife with a whopping 38 billion $ payout, or a tiny stake in Amazon, instantly making her the richest woman in the world. the split initially burned a hole in Jeff’s pocket, but he ended up making thrice the money in as little as 6 months, making him the richest man in the world by a distance.
The case with gates is a different affair altogether though. Bill and Melinda gates in recent times are recognized for their humanitarian efforts through the gates foundation. Although on paper, the gates promised to continue their efforts towards making the world a more habitable place, it remains to be seen if they hold up their end of the bargain.
