Why would you have to force quit your iPhone? An application that consumes a lot of memory may cause your iPhone to freeze. A restart forces the phone and its applications to reboot. However, in case you’re not able to restart your iPhone, you should try to force restart it. If iPhone isn’t responding, and can’t turn it off and on, try forcing it to restart.
You could use the below-mentioned methods for specific versions of iPhones to force restart them.

The Last Resort – Reinstalling the OS
Even after trying the above steps your iPhone still doesn’t work, then you might need to reinstall its operating system. To do that, first, connect your iPhone to your computer and start iTunes. Then perform a force-restart of your iPhone but don’t leave the buttons after the Apple logo’s appearance. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen i.e., the screen with the iTunes logo and Lightning connector. A window will appear in iTunes on your computer to Restore or Update your iPhone. Click Update and iTunes will reinstall the OS, this will be done without erasing your settings, apps, and data.
If even this doesn’t help, then restoring your iPhone to factory settings is the only left option. Which will erase all of the existing data and reinstall iOS. After which you will be prompted to restore a backup in iTunes or iCloud that you hopefully created in the recent past.
