Reddit is one of the huge websites that is full of information ranging from varying topics of interest. It is so vast that you can find any information that you want. It contains thousands of posts, comments, experiences shared by people across the globe, and a lot more hacks that can help you always.
But with every good thing comes a problem, although Reddit is one of the best websites out there, its search engine is a little complicated. It takes you through many different posts and ideas probably not relating to the thing you have been specifically looking for. We have come up with a few tips and tricks that will help you in getting the grip on how efficiently to use the search engine of Reddit and make the most out of it.
How to search for comments on Reddit
You’ve already come across the fact that you definitely cannot search for a Reddit comment on the main website of Reddit. But don’t worry, you can fix this by moving to another third-party app which is almost the same as Reddit, and even better, it lets you search for comments and much more. The Push-shift Reddit Search website is a lifesaver by letting you search the comments and not only that it has many more utilities to offer. In simple steps, you can easily perform a Reddit comment search.
- Make sure you are on the search area in the list of options on the first row.
- Unselect the posts and select the comments option in the second row.
- Select the period that you want to venture in, in the third row.
- Finally, enter the thing that you’re looking for in the search terms box available.
As specified above, not just this but if you wish to look into a specific subreddit, you can enter the same in the subreddits option that is provided.
How to find Deleted Reddit Comments
While you’re scrolling the enormous pile of comments, some comments might appear as being deleted by the user. It might not seem like a big deal but sometimes if you’re looking through the chain of comments and the initial comment is deleted, it probably would matter a lot since what led to the big chain of comments, is gone. But you can still revive it by this website named Undid that stores every possible comment that you can find on Reddit.
It will remember every other comment that is deleted and also as a matter of fact it will also show whether the user had removed their comment (indicated in blue) or if a mod has removed the comment (indicated in red). Undid can be easily used. You do not have to go through a lot of sophisticated steps.
All you have to do is to navigate to the comment section of the Reddit post that you wish to see and change the URL while retaining everything in the URL but the domain name that is, change the Reddit part in the domain name to Undid and that is all, you’ll see the Undid page containing the comment thread. If Undid had successfully saved the comment that got deleted, you will find it perfectly displayed just like before. In the worst-case scenario, if Undid fails to restore the comment before it got deleted, you will see nothing but an error message.
How to search Reddit for subreddits, Users, and posts
A Reddit search is simple to use, the search bar allows you to use any subreddit or post but this depends based on locations and what kind of Reddit design you are using. The old Reddit design has its search bar on the top right while the newer design has the search bar at the top in the middle. The search bar helps you get everything related to the term you have searched for. You can use the ‘subreddit page’ if you wish to look at all the subreddits that you follow and if you want to follow new communities.
How to search within a subreddit
If you want to look at more posts under the subreddit you are currently looking at, you can use modifiers that is, subreddit: [name] on the search bar. But you can save time with other methods too. In the older designs of Reddit, right under the search bar, you will see a checkbox. Click on the box that says “limit my search to [subreddit name]. this will enable you to view all the posts related to the subreddit you have searched for.
In the new design, this checkbox will probably not appear, instead, you will see the subreddit name appear on the left of the search bar meaning that in case you search for anything, Reddit will search relating only to that subreddit. In some cases, if this doesn’t appear, search for the same on the search bar. You will see an option underneath while you have typed showing ‘Show results from [subreddit name]’ and this will take you to search further relating to the subreddit.
