How to share a location or directions in Google Maps?

Do you know you can share directions in Google maps? If you are going somewhere and you need to share the destination. OR. You have to share the entire driving route; Google Maps has the ability to help. 

You have a “Share” button in the web browser and also on the mobile app that can be used to text or even email your destination to others. 

How can you share a Google Map on your computer? 

If you are using Google Maps on your desktop, you have the ability to share a location or even a complete route.

Open Google Maps on a Mac or on a PC.

Search for a location. OR. Search for a route in the search bar at the top-left.

After the result appears, click on it.

Click on “Share”. The icon will look like three circles connected by lines.

Click on the blue “Copy Link”, then send the link to whoever you want to. Notice you also have the ability to post the link to Facebook or Twitter if wanted.

How can you share directions in Google Maps on your smartphone? 

If you’re using the Google Maps app, you can share a location, however, you will not be able to share a complete route.  

1. Open the Google Maps app, then type in the location you wish to share in the top search bar.  
2. Tap on Share. This will look like a square with an arrow pointing up. For your iPhone, you might have to swipe up from the bottom to expand the menu, then tap on the Share icon at the top right. 
3. Select how you want to share the link. There are a number of options. These include copying the URL, sending it via text or email, or even sharing it on social media.
