The wait is finally over for iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 Public Beta, as Apple has just released the first public beta for both operating systems. If you want to get your hands on the new lockscreen customization options, you can download the beta software right now.
However, it’s important to note that beta software is often unstable and can contain bugs. As a result, it’s not recommended to install the beta on your primary device. Instead, you should install it on a spare iPhone or iPad that you don’t mind using for testing purposes. With that said, here’s how to install the iOS 16 public betas once it’s available for your device.
Installing the iOS 16 public beta
- To install the iOS 16 public beta, navigate on your phone’s Safari browser to Apple’s beta software portal and sign in with your Apple ID.
- After selecting the download link, you need to hit “Enroll Your Devices” in the drop-down menu at the top right of the webpage.
- Navigate to the left-most option, “iOS” on the next page. Doing so will provide a reminder to transfer your phone’s content ahead of using betas, in case beta versions causes unexpected problems, and you need to restore your phone.
- To download the beta, scroll down until you find a button that says “Download profile.” Once on this page, the screen will warn of the page trying to download configuration profiles. You can accept when the pop-up window appears, and head over to the Settings App.
- Apple’s new software for iPhone is still in beta, but you can start using it now.
- To activate: Open Settings > Profile Downloaded > Select Public Beta> Restart to update
