What is Plex?
Hello readers, if you are here, we know you are trying to find out What is Plex? Well, I have bought you information about a relatively unknown global streaming service and a client-server media player platform. It is called Plex (do not confuse it with PLEX programming language) because it was made by Plex, Inc. The app can run on mobile phones, smart TVs, streaming boxes, and web apps.
Why Plex?
Plex Media Server is a digital media player, an organizational tool that allows one to access music, pictures as well as movies stockpiled on a computer with another computer or a compatible mobile device. Once you download this software, it takes care of the rest, you’ll be up and streaming everything in minutes. You can access media files stored on your Plex Media Server computer remotely through the internet.
Is Plex free?
I bet you’re thinking why I’m telling you about yet another streaming service when there are a bunch of popular ones out there. Here’s the neat part, Plex Media Server is free! If you are not content with all the free content, then you have an option to upgrade to a premium account.
How to Download and Install Plex
You can download Plex Media Server from here and Plex Application here. To directly stream from your device online click here. You can sign up using a Google, Apple, or Facebook account. The installing process is not complex thanks to the installation wizard, you just need to launch the application after downloading. There are two apps needed if you want to use Plex:
1. The server application that runs on your computer where your media files are stored.
2. Plex app that runs on your computers, phones, tablets, or streaming devices.
Is Plex Safe?
Now when you are trying out something new, the first thing that has to be taken into consideration is if it is safe? It offers TLS certificates for encrypted connections between servers & client applications. The customer information they collect is safeguarded. Payment & credit information does not get stored on Plex servers. They are secured by Braintree that offers payment-processing services. Plex does not take responsibility for the privacy protection of information collected by third-party apps.
To enable secure connections follow –
Settings > Server > Network in the Plex Web App, see that Secure Connection’s preference is enables (we propose leaving it at the default setting of Preferred).
Finally, you now know What is Plex and how to use it. Give it a try and explore it. If you liked this article (or if it helped at all), please leave us a comment below or share it with friends, so they can enjoy it too.
