Phones are one of the greatest inventions and have been helping us with our needs ever since. Most of our daily tasks are carried out with just a few functions on our phones. From making calls to doing math, making lists, taking photos, booing cabs, getting groceries, and to even carrying out banking activities, phones have made lives easier.
Now that every other personal information is being stored on our phones, the question of security becomes very vital. A weak security system can be easily hacked by cybercriminals and most times, they target the users of iPhones and Androids. Since safety is above everything else, the user must make careful observations and choose the right operating system. Although this is quite difficult to answer as to which one is more secure, we have put forth different viewpoints to showcase the better secure operating system.
THREAT LEVEL
In most cases, an iPhone or an iOS is considered to be more secure than any other android device, this is because of several reasons. Apple has a very good security system as it does not share its source code or share it with the developers. The source code is close-ended such that it doesn’t even allow the user to modify the same. This creates a tough time for the cybercriminals to crack the security system of any device that runs on iOS.
Similarly, talking of android, the devices that run on the same, use an open-source code that allows every other modification to be made. The users of android can make changes to their operating system and this gives a very good opportunity for cybercriminals to look at the loopholes and breach the security of the device.
Androids have been running as an operating system for several devices across the globe along with the fact that they are built in a certain way, they are more likely to be hacked by cybercriminals and are prone to several malware and viruses.
Although this does not mean that Apple’s operating system is very secure, cybercriminals can crack or attack iOS with any malware or viruses. This makes both Android and iOS users equally careful of the security threats.
Often, when cracking the software doesn’t work, cybercriminals turn to phish. This involves tricking the users in the form of unauthorized websites and making them give in their personal information.
SECURITY AND SOFTWARE UPDATES: ANDRIOD AND IOS
The best viable option out there to keep your phone as secure as possible is to check for any security updates and ensure that they are updated on time.
In androids, keep the device always upgraded to the latest version. Android releases its updates on a regular basis and often this upgrade process takes a bit longer time most times, people tend to avoid this as it gets tiring but remember that your device is most secure with every upgrade you do.
Apple’s operating system on a similar note releases its updates in the form of prompts along with a message to install the same as soon as possible.
To avoid forgetting about updating the phone, you can always opt to enable the auto-update ode both on Android and iOS devices as it makes things efficient and updates without manually having to, on time.
BEING SAFE: ANDROID AND iOS
Android users have a fair chance of modifying their phone according to their wish which also poses a downside which is to extremely careful when it comes to security. This being aware also applies to iOS users.
Check twice before downloading any app on the market. This is one way of targeting the device, through an unauthorized third-party app. They might infect the device with viruses or any other malware or take in any of your personal information. This can be commonly seen in both Android and iOS devices.
Make sure the apps you download are from the google play store, in the case of Android. They give the ratings for each app and also check if the app is by trustable source. Google play store provides reviews from other users which are helpful. For iOS users, nothing can be more trustable than the Appstore itself. It is very secure and ensures only safe apps.
