IFTTT derives its name from the conditional statement “if this, then that”. The company provides a software platform that connects apps, devices as well as services from different developers, to trigger one or more automation involving those apps, devices, or services.
Let me give you three examples of if this, the automation you can run with IFTTT:
- If you make a call on your Android phone, then a log of that call will be added to a Google spreadsheet.
- If a new task is added to your Amazon Alexa to-dos, then it will be also be added to your iOS Reminders app.
- If the International Space Station happens to pass over your house, then you receive a smartphone notification.
There are 90 million activated applet connections, as per IFTTT. IFTTT was founded in 2010 and officially launched the service in 2011, by Tibbets and Jesse Tane. Tibbets is currently the CEO, as Tane moved on from IFTTT in 2012.
How do IFTTT Work?
You can turn on or off an applet using IFTTT’s website/mobile app. You also have the ability to create your applets. OR. You can make variations of existing ones via IFTTT’s user-friendly, thanks to the straightforward interface. Developers for example Ring and BMW pay an annual fee for applets services of IFTTT.
IFTTT is simple to use, just download the mobile app. Then create a free account and you’re up and running with automation within minutes. IFTTT helpfully provides new users with automation recommendations. You can search for individual applets, you can browse under categories such as business tools, connected car, or health and fitness. The My Applets screen lets users manage which applets are turned on.
IFTTT pricing
Individuals have access to a limited free version or the new Pro tier. IFTTT’s free tier no longer allows unlimited applet creation; the maximum is three, however, free users retain unlimited access to community applets.
IFTTT Pro on the other hand offers unlimited applet creation, as well as access to more advanced features. Provides the ability to create multi-step applets with several triggers and actions, along with faster applet execution, and customer support.
Those signing up for Pro can select from the suggested prices of $3.99, $5.99, and $9.99 a month, or choose their subscription fee of at least $1.99 a month.
The Developer version costs $199 a year. Alon with the features provided in the individual subscriptions offers API creators access to IFTTT’s ecosystem of users, developers, and services. The team adds the ability to embed integrations in mobile apps, websites, and email. The Team tier also upgrades support and analytics. The monthly cost also depends upon the number of connected customers/users.
