Last week, OnlyFans announced that it would no longer allow any pornographic content and the site would be “No Porn OnlyFans” from now on in its platform. The announcement was met with an instantaneous backlash from some of the site’s most popular content creators and fans alike who were left scrambling for a way to support their favorite models. In response to this outpouring of criticism, as well as assurances from banking partners that only Fans can provide satisfactory services regardless of what kind of genres are uploaded onto the site, the company backtracked on its decision and reversed course.
In a bizarre turn of events, only fans have backtracked on its announcement to ban porn. The only fans team announced the changes in an abrupt tweet last week, and then quickly retracted it. In a statement to The Verge, a spokesperson said “The proposed October 1st, 2021 changes are no longer required due to banking partners’ assurances that OnlyFans can support all genres of creators.”
What is the controversial ban on Porn OnlyFans policy?
OnlyFans is a social media website for adults who want to trade sexually explicit videos. In October, they are going to begin enforcing their “No Porn” policy which states that no sexually explicit content can be posted on the site. Anyone caught violating this will have their account suspended and all of their posts deleted from the site. This new enforcement may cause some users, as well as some potential advertisers, to leave OnlyFans for other sites like LiveJasmin or CamSoda because those sites allow porn-related content.
The recent series of Tweets OnlyFans confirmed that it is not going to go ahead with the new policy. “Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard. We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change. OnlyFans stands for inclusion, and we will continue to provide a home for all creators,” said OnlyFans’s official statement.
It also assured all the details will be sent to creators. “An official communication to creators will be emailed shortly.” After a few days of uproar from the adult entertainment community, OnlyFans is reversing its ban on porn. It is interesting to see if fans will be back to this site or have already looked into alternatives? Only time will tell us.
