YouTube has just released YouTube Premium Lite, a new subscription that offers ad-free viewing for less. This is the newest addition to YouTube’s premium offerings and targets users who want to watch videos without ads but don’t need features like background playback or offline downloads. YouTube is currently testing a new “Premium Lite” tier with no set release date yet. The countries that are eligible to test the new YouTube Premium lite are Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.
As reported by The Verge, YouTube spokesperson said in a statement “In Nordics and Benelux (except for Iceland), we’re testing a new offering to give users even more choice: Premium Lite costs €6.99/month (or local equivalent per month) and it includes ad-free videos on YouTube”. In contrast, YouTube Premium costs around €11.99 a month in Europe.
How does YouTube Premium Lite work?
It is a lower-priced option for users who want to watch videos without ads but don’t need features like background playback or offline downloads. It offers an ad-free experience, with support for 15 different languages and subtitles. Users will also be able to play YouTube music in the background on their phone while using other apps, which is not currently available on YouTube Music Key Basic (Free). One downside of YouTube Premium lite is that it doesn’t include access to YouTube Originals; however, you can still purchase these separately if they’re released between two semesters.
How premium lite will impact the YouTube market?
YouTube Premium Lite will allow YouTube to penetrate a new market of users who are not yet willing or able to pay for YouTube’s premium offerings. Many people have complained about the lack of features in YouTube music key basic (free) and it is possible that YouTube may lose some customers if they can’t afford YouTube premium. So, the new premium lite will help YouTube reach more audiences and make more money.
